Sasha Opeiko is currently pursuing her PhD in Art and Visual Culture at Western University. Her research explores intersections of artistic production, speculative realism and new definitions of melancholy to explore the “dark” reality of objects in the context of late capitalism. She works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, video, installation and new media, utilizing remediation of found objects and fragments of visual culture. She holds a BFA from University of Windsor (2009), an MFA from University of Victoria (2012). Her work has been exhibited widely at galleries such as Artcite Inc. (Windsor), Thames Art Gallery (Chatham), Deluge Contemporary Art (Victoria), and Manifest Gallery (Cincinnati, OH). She is a recipient of several grants, such as the Canada Council for the Arts Project Grant to Visual Artists (2015), the Ontario Arts Council Visual Artists: Emerging Grant (2016), the City of Windsor’s Arts Culture and Heritage Fund (2017), and OAC’s Visual Artists Creation Projects Grant (2019).
